Apsen trees are well-known among nature photographers as one of the most intriguing species of trees to photograph, especially in the beautiful tones of black and white. The white bark, offset against a bright yellow background, is often a go-to photograph for many color photographers. For black and white photographers, it doesn't much matter the time of year - aspen trees always look wonderful set against a dark background, such as the foliage in this piece.
What makes this photograph so much more intriguing is the sheer amount of detail captured, due to the use of 6x7cm black and white film. Pair that with the small, scraggly sapling sitting in front of the aspens - it wanting so badly to grow to be as tall and strong as them - and you get a photograph that encapsulates the isolation and perseverance found in nature.
